Pru Raymond — our Dear Pru — is coming to teach at That Yarn Place here in Samford, Brisbane. Yes. Really. And we are doing our very best to act like completely composed yarn shop owners about it.

If you’ve been knitting for any length of time, you’ll know her name. Pru is one of Australia’s most respected knitting educators and designers. Her workshops are highly sought after. Her patterns are beautifully written and thoughtfully constructed. Her understanding of technique and garment fit is impressive. And her approach to colour? Brave, joyful and wonderfully confident.

But what we’ve come to admire even more recently is who she is behind all of that - Kind. Generous. Thoughtful. The sort of person who genuinely wants knitters to grow and love their craft. There are people in the creative world whose work you admire from afar. And then there are people who shape the culture of a craft. Pru absolutely does that.

She encourages knitters to understand what they’re making, not just follow instructions. She embraces colour without an inkling of fear (something I work so hard at). She brings clarity to techniques that can otherwise feel intimidating. And she does it all with warmth. Having her step into our space, sit at our tables and teach our community feels incredibly special.

That Yarn Place has always been about more than just yarn. It’s about connection. Learning. Supporting designers and educators who contribute meaningfully to the craft we love. So to host someone we admire so much — right here in Brisbane — feels like a genuine pinch-me moment.

She designs patterns, writes with precision and clarity and inspires knitters to be bold and confident makers.
